| The symbol to the left when displayed on a product or on its packaging, indicates
that the product shall not be treated as household waste.
Instead it shall be handed over to an applicable collection
point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment (such
materials are known by the acronym EEE) . By proper disposal
of EEE waste, you can
ensure that you are doing your bit to help the environment. Sensible recycling of all materials will
help conserve natural resources and slow down the warming of the planet.
From 1st July 2007 a new European directive on waste disposal came
into effect. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE
Directive). The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the impact
of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and
recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve this
by making producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of
waste electrical equipment, and by obliging shops to allow
consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.
In order to comply
with our WEEE obligations and protect
the environment, we offer a free in store take back scheme. If you purchase a NEW product
from us we will take in your old equipment on a like for like basis. (eg. If you buy a NEW
PC from us we will accept your old PC. Or we will take in a CRT monitor when you buy a NEW
TFT monitor). Your old equipment will be either reused or properly recycled.
That being said, most of what we sell is second-hand equipment and is already doing
its bit to help the environment - The only new equipment we sell is cables and
accessories.
If you do give us
a PC, please ensure your data is removed from the PC - We are not responsible for your
data. Although if you wish, we can totally destroy your hard drive and thereby your
data, for a small fee of £10 per drive.
One consequence of the WEEE regulations on our
business is our decision to stop selling NEW goods over the internet or
by mail order. This is because it is not cost effective for us to put in
place a country wide system to take back old 'like for like' products as
required by the WEEE regulations.
In respect to the environment, we are
registered with the Environment Agency as a Registered Waste Carrier and a Broker. Registration Number: ACE/109811
Issued by: Environment Agency, Brampton Office, PE18 8NE
